  1. You can’t be successful if you quit when you get tired.
  2. When you get tired, it’s okay to cry. Don’t cry to quit. Cry to keep going.
  3. When you want to succeed as bad as you want to breathe, then you’ll be successful.
  4. Success comes to those who can sacrifice who they are for what they could be.
  5. It’s not about where you come from, it’s about where your heart truly lies.
  6. Pain is temporary. It may last for a second, a minute, an hour, a day, or even a year. But, it will subside and something else will take its place. If we quit, however, it will last forever.

Eric Thomas asked his mother one day, “Is dad, my real dad?”. The answer to it devastated him. It completely broke the bond he shared with his mother. One day, he left the house after a heated argument with his parents and his life went downhill.

He was homeless living in abandoned buildings, eating out of trash cans. He was stealing from grocery stores to make his ends meet. It was a wake-up call for him. He realized he has to take personal responsibility for himself at some point.

“You have a role in getting yourself here, you have to get yourself out. This might be your story today, this is not going to be your story tomorrow”.

During his freshman year, a group of guys started a ministry on campus. He joined it because he wanted to be a part of something positive. There was another group in his college called WSB, which stood for ‘Willing Succeeding in Black’ ran by African-Americans. For the first time in his life, he was surrounded by positive people who talked about real-world problems and not about girls, drugs, fights, or gangs. It was unbelievable for him. He starting volunteering, helping them set up programs in whatever way he could.

One day, a guy did not show up to speak. And he was there ready to grab the opportunity. His first speech was in front of 300–400 people who came up to him afterward to tell him what a difference he made in their lives! He felt like a superhuman.

That’s how Eric Thomas that we know of was born. At the age of 19, he decided to take up public speaking as his hustle and he never looked back since then!
